Wondering what to wear in South Florida? It depends. The first choice is to stay cool in the hot weather. Think tropical. On the beach, sarongs, bikinis, cover ups, and designer shades are a must- and don't forget the sunscreen. Read fashion magazines. The latest summertime fads and trends apply here year round.
The Miami crowd tends to choose a youthful, funkier style. Designers such as Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, and Donna Karan are represented. Popular storefronts include Banana Republic, Gap, Urban Outfitters, and other hip establishments. Many choose the dare to be bare looks of icons such as Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez. ¿Skin is in" in the scorching summer nighttime.
The Palm Beach zone is a bit more refined. Although some follow trends, many choose a more classic look. The little black dress is always appropriate at a cocktail party. But color is just as acceptable. Natives go wild with style but never too outrageous. Bill Blass, Oscar de la Renta, Chanel, and Georgio Armani are always popular choices. The goal is to appear professional and affluent. Casual wear never looks unkempt. For cooler days, many wrap sweaters around their shoulders. Active residents wear golf and tennis attire even when not in play. Polo shirts and khakis might be seen on men or a colorful shirt beneath a dinner jacket. Loafers without socks ala Miami Vice are still in fashion. For women, the perfect look must include the proper jewelry, shoes, watch, and handbag.
