Protect Your Pets from the Heat
Florida heat affects not only humans, but also, their precious pets. In extreme heat, dogs should be left home. If the dog must go outdoors, certain steps can be followed that will keep the dog safe.
1. Water Dogs should always have cool water in a spill proof bowl. Dogs can not only get dehydrated but also fall victim to potentially fatal heat stroke.*
2. Shade A shady spot will keep the dog cooler. If the dog is an enclosed area, a fan would not be a bad idea.
3. Exercise Dogs should exercise at cooler times of the day. Hot pavement can hurt their sensitive paws.
4. Transportation Car interiors can heat up to fatal temperatures very quickly. On hot days, even cracking a window and returning right away is not a good idea for dogs.
5. Water Safety Dogs must be supervised around water to save them from drowning and drinking water that could prove fatal.
6. Sunscreen Dogs also need sunscreen. Owners can choose sunscreen made for their pet or use a hypoallergenic human product on vulnerable areas.
7. Pests Hot temperatures bring dog-biting insects. Owners should protect their pet with vet-approved measures.
8. Allergies Dogs have allergies too. If a dog starts chewing on himself or scratching, see a vet.
*Rapid panting, twitching muscles, hot skin, and a dazed stare might be signs of heat stroke. Soaking the dog in cool towels, giving it water, and heading for the vet are suggested.

Buying Land and New Construction >Building Considerations
Are you planning to build your dream home? Once you are pre-approved for a loan and have found a professional real estate agent you trust, you are ready to start looking for the perfect lot.
Compare the qualities of several target neighborhoods by looking at schools, shopping, recreation and zoning. Make sure that the zoning regulations allow you to build the size and height of the home you want. Find out if there are use restrictions that would prevent you from developing your property as you intend. A visit to the local planning department will clarify your options for building.
Consider what type of home would best suit your lifestyle. Create a checklist to itemize the "must-have" interior and exterior features of a house that you feel are absolute requirements. Make notations about yard size, paint, roof and window conditions for the exterior, and floor plan, room quality and condition of the appliances for the interior. Bring your lists to your real estate agent. Together you can look over the currently available properties that correspond to your needs.
